Jail Gives Way to Bliss 2004
Year 2004-12 It's a fairytale ending for Mr. Dong Yu Chen and Miss Guohui Zhan, They married in Auckland Parnell Rose Garden in November 2004. Report from the Aucklander:
================================================================================ 2004-04-25 Miss Guohui Zhan was released during the Easter time with relative’s guarantee. Though Miss Zhan was released from detention with no charges, she is still under the threat that she could be arrested again at any moment in future. During the past a few weeks, Mr. Dong Yu Chen have received a great support from the Public, Medias, and MPs. 2004-04-02 Chinese
authorities detained Miss Guohui Zhan, the fiancée of a New Zealand
citizen, on 12th March 2004. The reason they gave for her detention was
that she practised Falun Gong, an ancient cultivation system based on
"Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance". While Miss Zhan was studying for a Doctorate in
Economics at Zhejiang University, the Chinese authorities tried to force
her to renounce her practice of Falun Gong. Following her refusal,
Zheijiang University dropped her from their doctorate studies. Miss Zhan is now detained in Hangzhou city, China.
She is faced with “brainwashing” classes to force her to give up
Falun Gong. She may also be put into a forced labour camp without trial.
The treatment of Miss Zhan by the Chinese authorities is in violation of
her civil rights and the freedom of belief. Her NZ fiancé, Mr. Dong Yu Chen, a New Zealand
citizen, has been desperately trying to talk to his fiancée but
his requests have been refused by the Chinese authorities. They also
refused to let Miss Zhan’s family to visit her. Mr. Chen is now calling on all kind-hearted people to help to rescue his fiancée from China. Miss Zhan’s plight is serious and your kind help is needed urgently. Your concern and action can make a difference. Several family members of Falun Gong practitioners detained in forced labour camps in China have been successfully rescued. Some of them were allowed to leave China to be reunited with their families.
